Mass Screening Programs to detect Diabetes

Diabetes is a silent killer. Most people with diabetes do not even know that they have high sugars until organ damage sets in. Many times, it becomes too late to reverse the damage. If people can be alerted sufficiently early in the course of the disease, it would give them the time to make lifestyle changes and dietary changes as well as take medication to prevent complications. To this end, we have conducted extensive screening camps in both rural and urban areas where penetration of awareness regarding diabetes is less. In these camps, people are educated regarding diabetes, choice of healthy food, necessity of exercise and the need to stick to the treatment regimen. FREE blood sugar screening is done and doctor consultation, diet counselling as well as medicines are provided. Continuous support is provided to those who cannot otherwise get access to optimal care. This reduces the burden on the disease on the society at large. This also prevents the development of life threatening complications of the kidney, heart or foot.
