FRIEND’S FOREVER PROGRAMME OF MAY 2023

Our Friend’s forever session for may month was conducted on 30.5.2023. It was an interactive
session for children with Type 1 Diabetes to educate, manage and promote optimal diabetes
management. Many children partook and benefitted from the session.
The focus areas of the session were HbA1c and Hypoglycaemia management. The interaction
elaborated on high HBA1c levels, managing hypoglycaemia, Self monitoring of blood glucose,
preventing high blood sugars spikes and achieving and maintaining the target HBA1c.
Dr.Varalakshmi , Consultant interacted with the children one- on- one session. Each child was given
individual attention, to correct specific mistakes to improve diabetes management and ensure
sustainability. Additionally, the complications of diabetes and its poor management were highlighted
due to uncontrolled blood sugars was addressed.

Dose adjustment to manage hypoglycaemia during various times, especially in different forms of
workout was discussed, along with insulin pump management for patients who have opted that line
of management.

The session concluded with the following take home pointers for the children-
 Prevention is better than cure
 HBA1c control and self administration of insulin
The session sereved to inculcate self confidence in the children, with regards to their management
of diabetes.
