Friends Forever – Support Group Meet December 2022

The monthly meeting of Friends Forever peer support group for December 2022 was conducted online in view of exams for the children. This latest meeting focused on complications of uncontrolled diabetes such as nephropathy and retinopathy which are chiefly a consequence of unawareness and negligence.

A session on this important topic was

conducted by Dr Lovelena Munawar, Consultant Diabetologist at our Gopalapuram centre. Dr Shuchy Chugh, Diabetes Education Specialist from Novo Nordisk India, also participated in the meeting. Dr Lovelena described the prevention, detection and management of nephropathy in simple terms, so that children and their parents could easily understand.

In the Q & A session, parents and children had some doubts on diabetic ketoacidosis, exercise guidelines and management of hypoglycemia. These were also clarified by both the panelists.
