Diabetes can affect the nerve endings and blood vessels leading to the foot, causing ulcers that fail to heal. Such foot ulcers need regular bandaging and treatment with a high grade antibiotics. Unfortunately, these non-healing ulcers are often ignored by the patient since they are painless; they can later turn to gangrene and may even necessitate amputation of the foot. Foot amputations are common among people with uncontrolled diabetes and can result in death too. You can help these patients by contributing towards the treatment of their foot ulcers and the cost of surgery if required.
